Lee Hyukjae was currently working on figuring out on how you could get the best taste of walnut out of Butter and walnut ice cream when his phone’s ringing made him jump out of his skin. He pushed his long fringe from his forehead while taking the phone out of his pocket – and in order of doing so he left a creamy and soon to be sticky trace of melted ice cream beneath his now messy golden-brown hair.
“Yello!”
He said happily right after he managed to answer his phone and put it on the speaker mode.
“Son! Are you there?”
This question could be coming out of the mouth of only one person in the house, which was, well, her mother.
“Yes, mother.”
He said obediently as he took a wet wash cloth and started to clean up the mess on the table. His eyes wandered over the wall of his shop’s kitchen, and he tried to catch a glimpse of the calendar. His mother calling only meant one thing.
“Oh, Hyukjae-yah. Are you okay? How is the work?”
“All is fine mom, thanks fo-“
His voice got cut by his obviously excited mother.
“The festival starts next week! You should fly here this weekend!”
Hyukjae rolled his eyes. This sound too familiar, her mother’s advances in the never-ending discussions of his (and his siblings’) love lives. Each and every summer and winter festival brought hopes of marrying her children to wealthy bachelors for his mother, and since he was the second eldest child in the family, he could feel the pressure getting harder each year.
“Well, the shop is kind of busy this year, and maybe it’s better if I Could come a little later than planned?”
